38 bands to rock your face off
Figure it for a person like Jeff Tobias, who makes music in multiple bands around town - We Versus the Shark (R.I.P.), Pegasuses XL, and that wild and wily, multi-member Dark Meat - to come up with a creative idea like this: selecting members from various local bands to play together in their own, new incarnations.
It's a one-night, one-of-a-kind show Tobias calls "Face/Off," with a whopping 38 bands represented on stage at the 40 Watt on Saturday. Members have been grouped in trios and will play for just 10 minutes, but those couple of songs are, says Tobias, oftentimes "magical."
"It's a high-stress thing to put together," he says, "but the payoff is tremendous. One of my favorite things about it is it's like seeing the debut performance of a friend's new band - 18 or 20 times in one night. I think people a lot of times are shocked with the skills or talents that come out that they were previously unaware of."
As stated, this isn't the first time for a Face/Off; Tobias has put together five such events so far, borrowing the idea from Jammy Jams at the 40 Watt. But previous Face/Offs have featured duos. This time, he decided to mix it up again and bring three people in

About the bands
Please note that shows scheduled after midnight are noted on the day that the lineup starts. For example, while 1 a.m. on Saturday is technically 1 a.m. Sunday, it would be listed as Saturday since it is part of the Saturday night showcase.
Editorial: Good news, bad news on Open Records Act
The good news is that someone in the state legislature has recognized the state Open Records Act has become unwieldy over the years as lawmakers have adopted numerous exemptions to the law, exemptions that limit the amount of information the public can get from the array of state and local governmental and quasi-governmental institutions.
Drummer swings mightily among several bands
Although acclaimed percussionist Yonrico Scott already has a gracious plenty on his musical plate, he admits that assembling his work schedule often hinges on the touring whims of Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Eric Clapton and Gregg Allman.
